Saturday 27 July saw thousands converge on Quex Park, near Margate for the first day of the Sound Island festival weekend to enjoy another year of outstanding musical acts including headliners Rita Ora and Plan B.
Rising star Bebe Black opened the show and was an excellent choice. Her big yet smooth vocals and stage presence had the crowd mesmerised from the onset. Leaving the stage you just know this girl from Dorset will undoubtedly have a bright future.
A note must be said for the guys from Heart FM. The pre show build-up and ‘between artist’ music kept the festival goers entertained throughout the day.
Next up saw Little Nikki and Giggs put on amazing performances in front of the Kent crowd.
The sun didn’t shine for long but the wet weather didn’t dampen any spirits. Former X Factor winner James Arthur hit the stage moving the crowd with a rockier rendition of his hit single, Impossible.
Rita Ora received a huge reception and rain swept Quex Park was left in a wet frenzy as she performed her hits including How We Do, RIP and Hot Right Now. Her high energy live performances have been the talk of the summer festival circuit this year and Rita did not disappoint on this occasion.
Headline act, Plan B, took to the stage for the charged crowd opening his set with I Am The Narrator, followed by Prayin’ from his second album, The Defamation of Strickland Banks.
All in all a fantastic atmosphere from the moment the doors opened. There was an abundance of food stalls to choose from, all reasonably priced I might add. Festival goers were even treated to clean and well kept portaloos throughout the day, shocker!
By far the best Sound Island yet, I for one cannot wait to see what Sound Island 2014 has to offer.
