Shawn Mendes, one of Time Magazine’s most influential teens of 2014, will officially join Taylor Swift on the US section of her 1989 World Tour between May and October of 2015. Shawn’s fans eagerly look forward to this week’s premiere of his new single, “Something Big” on November 7th, an earlier than initially planned release date as fans were given a chance to unlock his single early.
The single will be available to preorder the same day and will be released on January 18th in the UK.
Coinciding with today’s announcements, Shawn earned his first RIAA gold certification for his debut single, “Life of The Party,” which vaulted to #1 on iTunes in the USA less than one hour after its release in June. Within 24 hours of its release and #1 chart debut, there were over 2 million mentions of “Life of The Party” on Twitter, skyrocketing it to the #1 position on Billboard’s Twitter Music charts. “Life of The Party” charted inside the iTunes Top 5 in 28 other countries (including Brazil, Sweden, and Norway) and Top 10 in another 38 countries.
“Life of The Party” is the lynchpin of THE SHAWN MENDES EP, his self-titled 4-song EP that took over the iTunes #1 position less than 30 minutes after its release in July and debuted Top 5 on the Billboard chart, as well as Top 5 on the UK iTunes chart. The EP also includes “Show You,” “One Of Those Nights,” and “The Weight,” all of which were co-written by Shawn.
Shawn has scheduled the first three major-venue headlining shows of his career, to take place on November 15th at Best Buy Theater in New York City; November 26th at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles; and November 30th at Danforth Music Hall in his hometown of Toronto. Last month, he played a special, intimate show at London’s Borderline, where tickets were snapped up in under a minute.

He also performed on and was interviewed by Ellen. On July 25th, Shawn began his first major tour engagement, alongside The Vamps, on the road across the U.S. and Canada with Austin Mahone’s Secret Tour.
