Following a phenomenal performance at Glastonbury 2015, international superstar Lionel Richie has topped the UK album chart with ‘The Definitive Collection’. The album has jumped a staggering 103 positions this week to sell over 19,000 copies with a 1763 per cent uplift in sales to achieve his first UK Number 1 album in 23 years.
The UK fell in love again at Glastonbury, where he drew the biggest crowd of the weekend, with over 100,000 fans flocking to the Pyramid stage as he performed in the revered afternoon ‘legend’ slot. The crowd swung banners and wore t-shirts adorned with Lionel’s face as they danced the afternoon away to hits such as ‘All Night Long’, ‘Dancing On The Ceiling’ ‘Hello’, ‘Easy’ and ‘Three Times A Lady’ all included on the ‘The Definitive Collection’.
Lionel said: “I was overwhelmed performing at Glastonbury in front of all those people and for the fans to make the album No.1 is unbelievable. The UK has always been a special place for me, thank you, I love you all.”
Lionel has achieved an incredible career having sold over 100 million albums worldwide whilst receiving prestigious awards along the way including five GRAMMYs, a Golden Globe and even an Oscar. This Summer Lionel continues to perform at festivals across the country including an appearance at Henley Festival on July 9th and a performance at Edinburgh Castle on July 22nd.
