Continuing with the success of his stunning debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ Sam Smith enters into awards season with a total of 10 nominations across some of the industries biggest award shows Including the MOBOs, MTV VMAs, American Music Awards and the Q Awards.
The nominations coincide with the news of Sam’s 2015 North American arena & theatre tour, which has just been announced. Sam will be returning to the US in January where he will headline 16 venues including the iconic Madison Square Gardens.
Sam Smith’s stunning debut album, In The Lonely Hour, has gone platinum in the UK, selling over 1.5 million copies worldwide. This follows the news of Sam making U.S. pop music history after selling more copies in its first week of release – 166,000 – than any other debut album by a UK male artist in the 23-year history of Soundscan. The Capitol Records album was in the US Top 10 for 13 weeks and has now returned back. The album hasn’t left the top 5 in the UK since its release in May, 20 weeks ago.
After the release of the global hit single ‘Stay With Me’, which peaked at #1 and #2 in the UK and US charts respectively, the pop ballad is still making waves around the world with over 4.5 Million copies sold to date.
Sam’s record-setting album and single sales have spearheaded him into popular culture worldwide. His live shows have escalated to another level and these new dates mark the start of another successful year in 2015.
Critics have lauded Sam and his music with huge accolades coming from TIME Magazine, The Fader and The New York Times as well as on this side of the pond The Observer, i-D and Sunday Times Culture naming him ‘the voice of 2014’.
Sam’s 2015 North American tour begins on January 9that the Fox Theatre in Atlanta and ends at Rogers Arena in Canada on 4th February.
