The new single’ melds off-kilter, jittery grooves with Newton’s skyscraping falsetto that has brought audiences into a frenzy on his rapturously received current UK and European tour. Rich with feeling and edging into a bluesy territory, the track perfectly encapsulates Hit The Ground Running – a beautiful collection of both vocal and instrumental splendour.
Of the single ‘Fingertips, Newton says – “I think Finger Tips is the most soulful thing I’ve written, I wrote it with a friend from the ACM called Kristin Hosein it’s based around a loop, with a counter melody and I think it’s probably my favourite thing to sing off the new album.”
10 years on from his debut album, Hand Built by Robots, Newton has entered a career milestone bringing together his new and old tracks during a 37-stop UK tour. With new single ‘Fingertips’ Newton also announces a brand new live EP that sees the folk-Brit pop singer showcasing his vocal and instrumental development that has captivated audiences with his high energy and impressive musicianship.
Newton’s current tour in support of his new album Hit The Ground Running sees him launch into old tracks To The Light, I Need Something and giving an impressive cover of Massive Attack’s introspective Teardrop. With a mix of new tracks and older fan favourites, such as Dream Catch Me. Newton has also set an unexpected stand up comedy-esque feel to his shows.
Speaking about his touring career, Newton says – “There is nothing I don’t like about touring, I kind of feel like I was made in a test-tube for this job. The Gigs, the travelling and the never knowing where I am… I actually quite enjoy.”
Hit The Ground Running marks the British singer-songwriter’s sixth studio album, reaching number 13 on the UK charts and becoming the singer’s most successful album since 2013’s Studio Zoo. Independently released, the album comes just over ten years since his double-platinum debut album Hand Built By Robots.
The album also showcases Newton at his glorious best and still possessing the same bright energy six albums in. 10 years later Faulkner has carved himself an impressive career of 6 studio records – 4 of which have made their way to the top 10 of the UK charts – and regularly touring to sold-out crowds.
The last two years since releasing his previous LP Human Love, have seen Newton join the cast of the award-winning musical American Idiot, based on the music of punk rock group Green Day, as well as penning music for films.
This summer saw the British star turn to Boardmasters Festival, as well as slots at Solfest, Greenbelt and more. These festival dates have set him up perfectly for the longest tour of his career, a 32-date stint around the UK in October and November, headlining the length and breadth of the isles.
