WENDY, the main vocalist of the iconic K-Pop group Red Velvet, releases her second solo EP, “Wish You Hell” via SM Entertainment and distributed by Virgin Music Group globally. The project is available digitally, along with pre-order for the physical product, which is out on 12 April.
WENDY’s second EP “Wish You Hell” features six new songs, including a title track which is an addictive pop song with a catchy hook melody and a rhythmic guitar sound, creating a band-oriented sound. The lyrics depict bidding a fierce farewell to the past self who lived according to what others wanted, finding one’s true self. Watch the music video below.
In addition, the EP features the wistful R&B pop ballad ‘His Car Isn’t Yours’, ‘Better Judgement’, ‘Vermilion’, a mid-tempo R&B pop song ‘Best Ever’, and the pop dance track ‘Queen Of The Party’. This project encapsulates WENDY’s inherent bright, honest, and warm energy, making it a body of work perfect for anyone seeking a bit of pop escapism.
“Wish You Hell” drops only four months after “Chill Kill”, Red Velvet’s third full-length album. Last year, Red Velvet completed their first European tour “Red Velvet 4th Concert : R to V”, with stops in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, and London. The group’s stellar UK first headline concert at London’s OVO Arena Wembley earned five stars from The Guardian, describing it as a “mesmerising K-pop extravaganza”. The group also made headlines as the only K-Pop group to perform at Primavera Sound Barcelona 2023.
In April 2021, WENDY made her solo debut with the first mini album, “Like Water”, reaching the top spot in the iTunes Top Album Chart in 33 regions worldwide. NME’s review of “Like Water” described: “Just like how water is able to effortlessly take the shape of any vessel it’s poured into, [WENDY] uses the fluidity of her voice to her advantage in her first solo outing.”
WENDY has engaged in diverse individual activities including musicals, festivals, variety shows and presented a hugely popular radio show in South Korea that has seen her interview domestic and international talent. She was cast for the 10th anniversary of the musical Rebecca, playing the role of “I,” the narrator of the musical. She appeared on ‘Song Stealer’ broadcast during this year’s Lunar New Year holiday, showcasing a collaboration stage with Sunwoo Jung-A, and she is currently participating as a judge on Mnet’s ‘Build Up: Vocal Boy Group Survival’.
