One Direction have admitted they cried during their trip to poverty-stricken Ghana, where they filmed the music video for their Comic Relief charity single.
The boys – who have released a cover of Blondie’s hit ‘One Way or Another’ to money for Comic Relief – visited the poverty-stricken country to film the song’s music video, and were overcome by the experience.
Harry Styles, 18, told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “We all had moments. If you get involved in it and you don’t cry you’re superhuman. We’ve seen appeal films before so we thought we knew what it’s like, but when you’re there and you get the smells, your eyes hurt from the smoke, you cough, you’re feeling it all.
“The crazy thing is, when I went to school, not one person wanted to be there. Yet you go into a school in Ghana and every child loves it.”
Niall added: “We didn’t want to make a massive expensive video because that’s just a big waste of money. So we kinda made it ourselves.”
The boys also appeared on Daybreak this morning for an exclusive pre-recorded interview where they talked about the trip to Ghana.
Zayn admitted that his everyday problems have been put into perspective after the trip, he told TV’s Richard Arnold: “In everyday life you have problems that we think are so major and then you go over there and you see people with real problems and having to carry on every day and keep going. So just a general sense of just putting things into perspective for me.”
Harry said “We all kind of went out there not knowing what to expect, Then we came back looking at each other going… best thing ever done.”
Louis added: “I was surprised at the spirit of everyone, they’re so smiley, you walk down the street and everyone waves. If you did that in London…”
One Way Or Another, will be performed for first time at the The Brit Awards on Wednesday 20th February at London’s O2 Arena.
The song is already available for pre-order on iTunes, and is set to be released on Sunday 17th February.
