The Saturdays – Disco Love

After ‘Gentleman’, ‘Disco Love’ is the second single to come from The Saturdays’ upcoming fifth album due out later this year. Written and produced by StopWaitGo it’s a solid mid-tempo slice of electro/Euro dance-pop.

Given the countless musical references – Kylie, Donna Summer, the Bee Gees, Olivia Newton-John, Britney, and a chorus that borrows heavily from Whitney Huston’s ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ – this could have been a riotous celebration of and anthemic tribute to decades worth of disco/pop hits.

Unfortunately, whilst it is bright, chirpy and catchy enough, and features some neat touches like the girls’ trademark cheerleader chants and Clarence Clemons-style saxophone flourishes, it’s not especially memorable.

‘Gentleman’ wittily name-dropped a host of real male celebs, but it’s a riskier game quoting your hall-of-fame musical influences without fully rising to the challenge. ‘Disco Love’ is more “snap-your-fingers” than “throw-some-shapes”.

Release Date: 6th October
