More than 100,000 people have searched for tickets to see Prince or David Bowie following the Brit Awards, according to ticket marketplace Seatwave. The surge in interest dwarfed younger performers such as One Direction and the Arctic Monkeys.
Although only on stage for a matter of minutes to present Ellie Goulding with her award, the Purple Rain singer experienced the biggest bump in terms of fans searching for his tickets. David Bowie, who was not even present at the Brits and does not have any tour dates coming up, also experienced a huge surge in interest, as fans searched for him on the Seatwave website.
In terms of award winners, demand for the Arctic Monkeys and One Direction also increased with both artists seeing searches for their tickets more than double, however, the level of interest was much smaller than for Bowie and Prince.
Louise Mullock, spokesperson for Seatwave, commented: “Wherever he goes, Prince manages to steal the limelight. Despite only being on stage for a matter of minutes, his fan demand has gone through the roof. David Bowie has also seen drastic surges in the number of fans searching for him. Both Prince and Bowie have shown the youngsters how it’s done!”
