Following huge audience support and the phenomenal growth of the season-ending festival, Sundown had recently announced they want to give something back by offering aspiring artists the chance to open the main stage on Saturday 30 August.
In a surprise move, due to the high standard set by the entrants who were initially voted on by Sundown festivalites, the Sundown judging panel has chosen two winners to open the main stage – one on each day – for some of the UK’s biggest music artists.
19-year old Oliver Daldry impressed voters with his own original song, winning by a huge margin, and will open the main stage on the Saturday, with headliners Chase & Status and Tinie Tempah, along with Zane Lowe, Katy B, Pusha T, Foxes and many more performing throughout the day.
The judges also decided to choose a ‘wildcard’ from the finalists and offer Sunday’s main stage opening spot to 23-year old Reeva, who opens for headliner Ellie Goulding and the likes of John Newman, Clean Bandit, Ella Eyre, Jess Glynne and Neon Jungle, among others.
A large number of hopefuls initially submitted a 15-second video of themselves, singing, via Instagram with the tag @sundownuk and the hashtag #IAmSundown2014. The best of these were invited to provide a longer demo which have been posted on Sundown’s social media channels and put to the public vote among Sundown festivalites.
Sundown’s Stage 2 will be hosted by House specialists Defected Records on the Saturday, with DJs MK, Breach, Sam Divine and Shadow Child, while drum and bass label RAM Records take over for the Sunday, with Andy C, Wilkinson, Calyx & Teebee and Delta Heavy confirmed so far.
Tickets for this year’s Sundown – which has grown from 15,000 people at the inaugural event in 2011, to 38,000 in 2013 – are already in short supply as demand has soared across the UK following a significant rise in profile.
